United States commitment to assist Pakistan’s Aviation Industry will create news jobs and provide stability. This was stated by Ms. Anne W Patterson, United States Ambassador to Pakistan at a signing ceremony between United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and Pakistan International Airlines at a simple ceremony held at the airlines Office in Islamabad.
The agreement was signed by US Ambassador to Pakistan, Ms. Anne W. Patterson and Managing Director PIA, Captain Muhammad Aijaz Haroon. Recognizing great potential in PIA’s Maintenance Repair and Overhaul capabilities , the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has granted PIA PKR 58 Million (US $ 864,000) to conduct a thorough feasibility for this business.
Managing Director PIA, Captain Muhammad Aijaz Haroon while sharing his views on the occasion said that PIA’s highly skilled engineering capabilities, 60 years of legacy experience and vast infrastructure will serve as a solid foundation for the growth of MRO (Maintenance Repair Overhaul) Business in Pakistan.
The airline’s five year Business Plan is focused on turning cost centre into revenue centres and focused approach to customer service will greatly help PIA return to profitability.
The Joint initiative by PIA and USTDA underscores the confidence and trust in PIA’s Engineering capabilities to create a state of the art MRO facility in the region that will create revenue of US$ 100 million and creation of up to 5,000 jobs in Pakistan. The South Asian and Middle Eastern MRO Market are expected to grow to become US $ 9 billion dollar Market.
The project will be headed by PIA’s Deputy Managing Director, Salim Sayani who has over thirty five years of aviation experience.
