Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has a long standing relationship with the people of Gilgit spread over the decades and PIA has always come up to the expectations of the people. Managing Director PIA, Capt. Mohammad Aijaz Haroon stated at the ceremony for awarding the appointment letter to the valiant son of Gilgit, Ibrar Ahmed Ghazi.

Ibrar Ahmed Ghazi had saved lives of two little girls, Kulsoom 5years and Komal 3years, who were drowning in the Gilgit River in September 1997. The President of Pakistan Mr. Asif  Ali Zardari awarded Tamgha e Imtiaz to Ibrar Ahmed Ghazi for his courage and bravery on March 23, 2010.

Addressing the notables of Gilgit, MD PIA said that on 23rd March 2010 during the award ceremony at the President House, he decided to appoint this brave son of Gilgit in the airline. “This act of saving the lives of two little girls was not due to any family relationship between Ibrar and girls but it is only the national fervor that encouraged him to take such a daring step. We need courageous youth in PIA and being a national entity, PIA has a duty to give job opportunities to such brave youth in order to make them a role model for coming generations. Furthermore, PIA will support Ibrar Ahmed Ghazi for his further studies,” said the MD PIA.

“PIA is the only airline that is operating to connect the far and remote areas of Pakistan to the major cities of the country. It is pertinent to mention here that other private airlines are also operating in the country but only on profitable routes,” said Capt. Aijaz.

He said that PIA is working to expand its fleet and as soon as the airline gets more airplanes, flights to Gilgit will be increased. He asked the Provincial government of Gilgit Baltistan to give suggestions in order to facilitate the local public and PIA will try and come up to the expectations of the people of Gilgit Baltistan.
