Finally, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed all concerned operators in Pakistan to block website www.facebook.com till further order. These directions have been issued in compliance with the directions issued by Ministry of IT & Telecom (MoIT) in view of decision of the Honorable Lahore High Court (LHC).
Earlier on May 18, PTA has issued instructions to all concerned to block the objectionable link/URL on facebook which were immediately blocked.
PTA’s helpline toll free number 0800-55055 and email complaint@pta.gov.pk can be used to notify all similar URLs where such objectionable material is found.
It is not yet confirmed yet that FB will remain blocked for ever in Pakistan like China took action against Google or the decision will be reviewed after few days.
In compliance to the directions, one of the ISPs, BrainNet, shows the following page when URL www.facebook.com is typed

In protest against blasphemy on facebook, Cellular companies have also joined hands as per PTA’s directions to close the blackberry services on all the cellular networks in Pakistan.

Wow ! high court was quick with this case as was going to get international publicity, what about the cases waiting for years and years to be heard by this JUDGE our high court.
Lets ban it all and go back to stone age!
Ban this Ban that Ban it all!
Facebook Comment on International media: “No one contacted Facebook” !!!
this is ridiculous….
Our institutions are least bothered about the problems of poor citizens. What is highlighted in media is addressed and that too half heartedly just to save their skin.
for one banning facebook has gotten this whole facebook competition more publicity.
In a country like ours where we have no electricity, no water, gas loadshading and a whole bunch of other problems…we feel the need to ban facebook ! bravo guys! we really do have our priorities in the right place. (and if anyone here didnt get what i said…im being sarcastic!!! i feel the need to state this given the intelligence of our people)
how smart are we really?! i can see very strong comments above supporting the cause…but if anyone with half an intelligent brain stops and thinks about it…is it really worth all the attention?! dont go on the competition site! its a social network…what u do on it is your business! Do we see turkey, UAE, Malaysia or any other muslim country banning facebook all together? refrain from using facebook if u want…but why ban it?!
i second you Aly. it is similar case that we are banning facebook and youtube but still we are proving them revenues by buy their products. we can stop using them same way we can stop visiting FB’s specific area. we must not run away or hide by just banning the site. Besides, there are ways to deal the situation. right now its FB later it could be whole WEB, what we will do then, ban the entire WEB????
we are not running or hiding from them we have now give them what they need and deserve. when we responds like that they will soon take positive actions, because they had interests in Muslims and they don’t wanna lose those interests.
So you say when they see we are damaging their interest then they will change their attitude and start respecting us. I can access from your comment that we are not concerned about our own respect and reputation. Our respect can not be connected to their commercial interest. It should be unconditional.
You cannot even think about it that this action how badly affected their game plan and how much pain that Pakistan has given to them. When ever they do earlier same type of rubbish and haven’t get any response from Muslims they feel more confident and attack on us with a new strategy. but by that incident their think tank got a shook by our act now they are thinking how is it possible that the Muslims who were spending their lives in a measurable condition can respond them with this much resistance.
strange, things we do not like we shut down. This is the 21st century and we are hiding our heads in sand like an ostrich. A better thing would have been to force FB to remove the objectionable material.
This is the age of technology and if people can offend u at facebook they can do that on other venues as well. You should have a strong faith and thats that, blocking sites will result only in people not getting to use the internet at all. blocking FB does not solve the issue, it only hides the issue from us. Also it shows how backward we are. There are books and websites that say that jesus never existed, they are not blocked in christian countries. What other muslim country has blocked FB? It should be opened immediately
@jak i think you never noticed. Every Muslim across the world had sent the message well before this day but Facebook never reviewed its decision to conduct the competition. It was biased and it’s been always. Everything that comes from Muslims is filtered by them and rest is available for everyone.
What right they have to do the discrimination and play with people. By the way Jesus is also sacred to us and we don’t believe in those books and content as well. It is the hallmark of some freak society to allow to such things in the name of freedom of speech and independence of thought. The west even can make fun of God, they do, what you can talk about.
It is not like hiding our heads like ostrich, the problem is when the west is so much biased then what else you can think of, a boycott should be the first solution. There are ways to let them know our sentiments, we tried the earlier one, this is not the last but still they should realize our values. And by the way, do you imagine, how much FB can lose if we and other Muslim countries stop it from using, it can fall and go bankrupt anytime.
Closer of Fb is not the end of things it will make us more helpless since its a very good way of communication.I’v found so many old friends through Facebook.I am sure other ppl have the same feelings. We should fight against these things instead of increasing other peoples suffering, who r already suffering sooooo much.It should be opened as soon. And the culprits should be dealth with iron hands.
Thx
@Ansari, What in your mind could be the better way to deal with this situation if we have to avoid helplessness?
dear sister Ansari,
The thing is that our success is in love with our Allah and Muhammad PBUH, not in love with friend’s love. Friends are important but where love of Allah and Muhammad PBUH came we have to leave every thing behind. Friends can be founded through other media or websites but if there FB and YouTube are planning something to tease Muslims then thats our obligations that we should respond more strictly to show our love with Allah and Muhammad PBUH.
May Allah Give us strengths to do more and to live like our forefathers use to live with dignity.
a great news and positive action taken by lahore high court. we should appreciate their action. may ALLAH give them strength to do more for islam and the doughter of islam and pakistan DR. AAFIA . Pray for her.
irfan now we believe in courts, i think we will get our honour back if we keep on standing against all the odds and ills.
Dear Naeem,
We can not do anything alone we should become a unit to respond and tell these asnti islamic minded peoples that we still love Allah and Muhammad PBUH. We need a platform that can bring us close to unite i think that we got in form of Courts.
Big Thanks for (PTA) i think it will Ban for forever.no need for this kind of sick mind things. Thanks for all IT staff as well.
its the right thing to do. thank God we are standing up for something in our lives! And yes , we will block every platform that disrespects our religion and our beloved prophet! why shouldn’t we? what are we afraid of?
i’m afraid people will share that prohibited content through other platforms. Will we ask to ban other platforms as well???
Dear Syed Fasih,
PTA’s team is monitoring such kind of rubbish on web they found on any web link they blocked that website like you tube blocked.
