Four Pakistani students have been shortlisted to represent Pakistan at the CIMA Global Business Challenge grand final to be held in Malaysia on 5th and 6th August 2010.
The four winners were announced at the Pakistan level final held on Saturday in Karachi. The shortlisted team of four students belongs to Institute of Business Management (IoBM) Karachi. The GBC, which is sponsored globally by Barclays, is an international competition designed to bring out the best in potential business leaders among young people. The global final promises to be an exciting event, with eleven teams competing on an international stage for the title of ‘Global Winners’.

16 students participated in Pakistan level final and presented their case studies to a panel of judges from leading business and financial institutions. Their reports were assessed by CIMA on criteria such as focus, prioritization and diversity of response, as well as the use of recognized business models and technical methods to analyze financial data. Of the 4 teams, which each comprised of 4 students one winning team was shortlisted to attend the Global final in August to be held in Malaysia.

Salema Hafiz, International Marketing Manager CIMA, Javed Iqbal, CEO THK Associates, Aslam Zaidi, General Manager Finance Weapon Security Pakistan Tool Factory, Rizwan Hussainy, Finance Director Barclay’s were the judges of the competition.

Once there, the winning team will face tough competition from the other winning national teams representing: the UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, India, mainland China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, UAE, Philippines and Australia. Pakistani Team will present a business case to an audience of CIMA delegates and a judging panel of prestigious experts who face the challenging task of picking the winning global finalists.

This is the first time the GBC has been open to Pakistani students. The international competition provided Pakistani students with a great opportunity to test the depth of their financial knowledge, try out their business management skills, expand upon their competitive ability, and could even lead to internship opportunities from well known organisations from around the world.

IOBM team now has the immediate task of preparing for the international competition. The team will need to demonstrate its competency in management accounting via the analysis of a case study that has been simulated from a real world business environment. The students will be required to report and present on their analysis at the global final.

The winning team representative said that they are delighted to have won the national round and now they look forward to be competing on a global scale and bring the title to Pakistan.
