Intel Pakistan Corporation under the Intel® Education Initiative today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with School Education Department, Government of Punjab to accelerate the integration of ICT in the education system of the province. The aim is to train teachers on ICT via the Intel® Teach Program and to educate them on modern teaching methodologies that enhance student’s 21st century skills. The government has taken the responsibility for all costs of implementation to support this strategic partnership through its own sources along with sponsorship from other donor agencies working for the common cause of education, science and innovation.
Intel will render ICT training to all government teachers to incorporate the Intel® Teach curriculum in the education system. Intel aims to educate 29,000 IT and subject teachers over a period of 3 years. Intel with the School Education Department, Govt. of Punjab will also hold workshops to facilitate and promote ICT integration and Project Based Learning.
For the first time ever, the School Education Department, Govt. of Punjab has allocated one week in its yearly calendar for ICT education in schools. Previously, there have been different weeks allocated for different subjects like Science, English, and Math etc. In addition the government has also agreed to implement the grades 6 and 7 student curriculum under Skills for Success, first through a pilot in specific districts and then across the province, which will go on to help build a better IT education foundation for the students. Additionally, Intel will hold Science and research workshops and competitions at the regional and provincial levels to promote an interest in science and research. Intel will also provide on-going support to School Education Department, Govt. of Punjab, as and when needed, on a mutually agreed basis.

Our collaboration with the School Education Department, Govt. of Punjab is to help expand access to knowledge and skills which are expected to strengthen and raise the quality of teaching and learning,” said Ashar H. Zaidi, Country Manager, Intel Pakistan. “Intel has produced innovative curricula for students and teachers to this end. Along with these programs and investments, Intel intends to also dedicate resources to evaluate results in order to ensure continuous, targeted improvement of all of our educational endeavors.”
The Additional Secretary School Education Department, Government of Punjab, Izhar Ahmed said, “The effective integration of ICT into the educational system is an elaborate, multifaceted process that not only involves technology but also curriculum and tutelage.” He further added, “Intel Pakistan, with the implementation of the Intel Teach and Intel ISEF in the province, will provide unprecedented support and opportunities for both teachers and students in ways unimaginable.”
