YouTube is extending its service for the deaf web surfers. YouTube has announced that it is expanding its automatic caption capability to all English-language videos.
Since 2008 YouTube users have been adding the captions on the videos manually. But from the November of last year the site has started offering machine generated captions adding to the videos for a dozen of participant channels.
Hiroto Tokusei, a YouTube product manager announced that the automatic caption, or auto-caption, feature has now being expanded to all videos on the site in English.
Auto-captioning uses speech-to-text technology to generate subtitles. But the problem is that the auto-caption feature currently only works for videos where English is spoken, YouTube product manager said that users can use Google’s automatic translation service to simultaneously translate the captions into 50 other languages.
