DAWN news, an English channel, is starting its Urdu transmission from February 22, 2010 (today). The current English Channel will telecast current affairs programs in Urdu from 8PM to 11 PM including a news bulletin in Urdu as well.
In a media statement, the group said, it was finalized after a deep research and public demand. We strongly believe that there is still a requirement for an unbiased, balanced and accurate Urdu news channel.
The group has also announced to convert this 3 hour transmission into a complete 24/7 Urdu TV Channel very soon.
It can be recalled that the rival GEO had also planned to start its English news channel to compete DAWN for which earlier had complete its homework but could never launch its English version due to certain reason. From DAWN’s decision it looks that the group has realized the importance of mass acceptability of an Urdu channel apart from huge business prospects.

Thats really good of DAWN…..i think they are running a very well maintained ENGLISH News channel and thei URDU channel will be no less……….
I think dawn is having less revenue because it caters to very limited class and it has calculated the revenue of those channels using mother language as their mediums. It is going to bring a tough competition now…lets see.
Finally big guy realizes what people want..
