A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Sub-Committee of Women Entrepreneurs under Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCWE-KCCI) and USAID/Pakistan on 3rd February in Karachi. The synergies between SCWE-KCCI and USAID’s FIRMS Project will further women’s economic participation and empowerment in Pakistan.
Both parties mutually agreed to focus their energies on increasing women’s economic participation through employment and entrepreneurship in Karachi city. ‘Family Support Appreciation Program’ and ‘Capacity Building of the Support Institutions’ are the two main activities under the agreement. This MoU reflects close collaboration between the two organizations to assist and empower women-owned enterprises in Pakistan’s economic progress.
Mrs. Durre Shahwar Nisar, Chairperson, SCWE-KCCI, said during the event that “our mutual goal is to increase women participation in the economic growth of Pakistan. We are very looking forward to the activities and initiatives discussed and hope this would bring a positive change in understanding and enhancing the role of women in economic growth”.
Through the ‘Family Support Appreciation Program’ the valuable support provided by family members to their female members’ business initiatives will be acknowledged and appreciated. The second activity, ‘Capacity Building of the Support Institutions’ will allow institutions to respond to the needs of their constituents and to deliver meaningful and relevant services to members. Thus the institution will facilitate increase in women’s employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainability in the city of Karachi.
USAID is facilitating this agreement through its economic growth initiative, FIRMS Project. The objective of the USAID/Pakistan FIRMS Project is to improve government service delivery and develop dynamic, internationally competitive firms to accelerate sales, investment, and job growth.
