Gender discrimination at Wi-tribe

It was shocking to learn that the culture and values at Wi-tribe Pakistan are centuries old where merit and ethics do not exist. In my last story I shared with you their weak and annoying customer support and sales practices. Apart from less trained staff and weak planning, I found one common problem in both the cases, that is, absence of humanity. It is big question that should be answered by Wi-tribe that how you can serve people without knowing the meanings of service.

Today we talk about equal rights for men and women at home or workplace as well. We have only come to this conclusion after realizing the negative impacts of gender discrimination in all the previous decades our country has seen since its birth. Our Courts, Television Channels, Newspapers, NGOs, Political and Social organizations keep discouraging those elements which are still involved in gender discrimination, suppress women or children, threat them and keep them deprived of their basic rights.

Wi-tribe has not yet completed its first year; company must be planning to celebrate its first anniversary in a very unique manner. But in its very early days of survival few major actions have raised many questions about its standing in the market and the future of the company.

An incident that took place few days ago shook everyone who ever heard it. Mr. Basit Hussain who looks after the marketing affairs is known for his nonprofessional, unethical and rude behavior. Threatening his colleagues, junior or senior is a very routine work for this guy. In this particular incident, this guy attacked his women colleagues with all the ill-mannered and abusive language without any reason. Well, if he had any professional reason, this course of action cannot be tolerated in any ways.

According to an external witness who had come to Wi-tribe for some official reasons confirmed that, on that particular day, Mr. Basit Hussain appeared at reception and started shouting and abusing the management including the heads of company and the CEO. At that moment it appeared that this guy was in real pain and something bad must have happened to him, he was cursing the management because a woman in the admin department did not give him the keys of company car and it was important for Mr. Basit to get the car at that moment and take her female friend outside because, according to Basit, his friend was not feeling well. He did not get the car keys because there was no company car available at that moment. Mr. Basit never thought to carry his friend in his own car nor did he try to borrow a car from his friend/colleague, also, he did not consider hiring a taxi as well. The eye witness told that his female friend was not feeling bad and it was a situation created and exaggerated by this man himself.

Due to this very simple and self created reason, Mr. Basit Hussain had scolded and abused his various female colleagues and threatened them of dire consequences.

Another source confirmed that this is how this guy is. He is always like this with everyone and no one can touch him even the decision makers.

ApnaTime contacted the Vice President HR of the company to know the truth and asked him about the incidents, he told, “There was an incident but it has been solved and there are no pending issues at the moment. Atmosphere at Wi-tribe is very friendly and open and we are the preferred employer of Pakistan. Currently there are more than 20,000 applicants in the queue who have applied for various positions.”

Sources confirmed that the issue was resolved by telling the colleagues of Basit Hussain to remain silent and do not discuss it anymore. Despite of several complaints for seeking justice, VP HR never paid attention to any of the incidents inside the company. In one of the meetings a senior officer from the management brushed off the complaint and commented, “Basit is just an aggressive man, he is a good guy”.

Basit Hussain was appointed as an executive at Wi-tribe and he has been promoted to Manager of that department in just 7 months of company’s life despite of his all the odds and bad performance.

According to our sources, there are cases in which some female staff members have been beaten physically.

No one, whoever is he, has the right to treat other human beings like this. We are sad to hear this happening at the premises of one of the major investors in Pakistan. We need the investment and the good relations or otherwise things will get complicated and the worst. We hope that someone will take it seriously or else we can only pray for them.

Just like a new car would run perfectly if the driver is experienced and sensible enough similarly a new company will perform excellent if the people running it are mature , professional and of course have a solid experience otherwise Car and the Company will face same destiny.

I totally agree with ali, i know some of blogs or website like this who says give us business or we will right something about your company, but i am wondering that why are they targeting only one man in the company. I think they have some personal problem with this guy and they are trying to take revenge from the this guy.

Sorry guys, i was away that's why couldn't respond.

Well @Pakistani and @Mehmood, before writing these lines i made sure that it wasn't wrong thats why i talked to the head of HR, who confirmed such an incident, not once but twice. Before that i had all the proofs and after talking to him i uploaded this story.

Proofs are both electronic and on paper as well. So its authentic, nothing extra added. And by the way there wasn't any single person involved, dozens of people witnessed it and more than half a dozens people were abused, it included the males as well. So there is nothing like a personal grudge from someone single. About beating someone, If you are slapped, it can be termed as beaten.

About disclosing the source, no one does and can't.

@Pakistani bhai, you must have gone through some of my stories which are actually critical but believe me you can find other kind of stories as well. Anyways, good to have your feedback. Thanks once again for all of you.

    • mahmood on January 30, 2010 at 3:28 am

It seems that if the males were also abused then your topic of 'Gender discrimination a routine work' is wrong.

Mr Mudassir, You didn't get me. Do you have any picture or any tangible proof of people being slapped?

I think that comments of head of HR are very important here because you mentioned that VP HR never paid attention to any of the incidents inside the company which means he brushed off baseless things; but now you are also saying that the VP HR confirmed TWICE such incidences. What incidence he confirmed? That the accused slapped 6 people and threatened them?

How can we believe that you have the proof that believe you have since your article seems to has a lot of spice, and has bias. I have never seen many blogs going for personal attacks. Did you contact the accused as well? If not then why not?

      • mahmood on January 30, 2010 at 3:51 am

and my comment on Mr. Muddasir' comments is waiting moderation 0)

        very biased!!!

      • Mudassar J Mufti on January 30, 2010 at 4:07 am

Mehmood, now you are talking about two things. One is which the story says, the particular incident between Basit and Admin and i have the proofs for it. If you are referring to this line "According to our sources, there are cases in which some female staff members have been beaten physically"

this is another incident which i have not put details of as my only concern is to highlight to such a level where things could be fixed. The HR person confirmed the first one and i think a person on that level wouldn't confirm any such thing if it didn't have basis.

I would have changed the Title if both the genders were listened to equally.

Nothing biased and if it seems then this is because the issue revolves around Basit and i haven't mentioned names of other people as well who were treated and most of them are females. One thing you need to consider, i am not boasting here for anything.

It is difficult to understand that Basit has abused senior management including CEO :) Threatens everyone of dire consequences but still management brush off the complaints and believes that “Basit is just an aggressive man, he is a good guy”. He might have beaten up some media men though :)

  5. ali on January 30, 2010 at 2:05 am

    Mr Pakistani, you are right!

You can not control jerks but journalism can be done with resposibility.

  6. ali on January 30, 2010 at 1:51 am

Mr Pakistani, you are so right. I fully agree with you. By the way ye Lahori (Apnatime) wale brainz kum use karte hein. Mujhe to lagta hai ke wi-tribe ne in ke puraney pese dene hain :)

@Author Mudassir: wi-tribe mein aurton ko mara jata hai? This is hillarious :) ))))

  7. mahmood on January 30, 2010 at 12:55 am

We should always make sure and confirm truth because 'Buhtan' is Gunah.

    I have some questions…

    (A) Did someone contact Basit and asked him about the story?

    (B) What if that woman was really ill?

    (C) Can someone really beat up women in any organization today?

    (D) What if the internal source is against him?

    (E) Or has the company fired someone responsible for administrative failures? because the story might be shared by someone who wants Basit out of the company what ever it takes…

We should only react once we confirm the authenticity of news!

    • Pakistani on January 30, 2010 at 1:22 am

Completely agree with mehmood, thats what i wanna convey to our generation, that stop believing on everything and comment, you got brain and freedom to think on everything, just free your minds and think over it again.

      "Pehlo Soocho , Phir Nocho"

  8. Pakistani on January 29, 2010 at 9:51 pm

Guys, you need to grow up , thats the problem of our generation that they start believing on everything they see on TV and read sick stories by jerks, is there any proof that this is happening in wi-tribe, may be its true but they way mudassir sketch the scene is bullshit, there is no company where girls are got beaten.

Many employees have issues with HR & Admin in every company, but no professional use abusive language at work, as you mentioned that he got promoted in 7 months that means he got some potential and dedication to work, how could someone like that can kick is own ass?

Stop criticizing ! Get a Life you jerks

  9. ahmad bilal on January 29, 2010 at 8:52 pm

Such practices should come to an end at once. One should not be tolerating people like Basit. He brings bad name to "THE COMPANY".

  10. ridhwan on January 29, 2010 at 8:43 pm

i think its our responsibility to fight against ppl like basit. infact i would blame that girl.. she should've reciprocated in the same manner. he deserved that

  11. tayyaba on January 29, 2010 at 8:36 pm

it is so disappointing to know that companies like wi-tribe who talk of practicing the best corporate culture and claim themselves to be equal opportunity employer with females encouraged to apply written in their advertisements have such horrifying face in real. they should instead of bringing revolutionary change in technology rather focus more on changing their mindsets and attitudes first. this incident is so distasteful that if wi-tribe management has any morals left, though i doubt, should immediately take a strict action.

  12. Asim Qabacha on January 29, 2010 at 7:11 pm

SHAME ON YOU … WI-TRIBE ….. WHY THEY ARE TRYING TO PROVE THEM SELF A BARBERIAN TRIBE .. THIS IS FUCKING RESPECTABLE BUSINESS AS YET IN PAKISTAN …

  13. naeem on January 29, 2010 at 7:10 pm

bhai mufti, things you are mentioning are not good. but tell me one thing that shouldn't these things be solved internally instead of debating in public?

    • tayyaba on January 29, 2010 at 8:39 pm

naeem i am sure things must have been out of control that they have surfaced themselves publicaly, and sometimes people even if knowing the right way do not opt for it until or unless pushed to do so

      • Pakistani on January 30, 2010 at 1:31 am

How authentic this story is ?

thats the problem of our generation that they start believing on everything they see on TV and read sick stories by anyone, is there any proof that this is happening in wi-tribe, may be its true but they way mudassir sketch the scene is bullshit, there is no company where girls are got beaten.
