Zong offers BlackBerry on Installments, Newspaper Ad

We have just received the clarification from Zong at 6:00 PM, Dec 14 and news has been updated accordingly.

In Pakistan, Blackberry is taken as a symbol of status and anyone in corporate sector thinks of it as a must buy. As soon as anyone gets a corporate job, he/she starts finding ways to get a BlackBerry in his hands, changing a car is not an option but getting a Blackberry means everything for the guy.

Zong’s recent campaign tells that for getting a BlackBerry you do not need to be heavy salaried person. Now you can get ZONG Blackberry services on easy monthly installments, Curve 8900 for Rs. 4,000 per month and Bold 9000 for Rs. 5,000 per month according to the company. The monthly installment plan spans over 2 years that makes the Curve 8900 package for Rs. 96,000 and Bold 9000 package for Rs. 120,000 at the end of contractual period.

According to the details provided by the company, customers who use the credit card and wish to get the BlackBerry services will contact the Zong franchise or corporate sales team and get their handset along with the postpaid connection and BlackBerry services at once. Rs. 4,000/5,000 will be deducted from their credit card on monthly basis.

Company further says, it is giving the handset for free and only charging Rs. 2,000 as line rent and remaining Rs. 2,000 for a very cheap call rates on postpaid connection and unlimited internet usage without any cap that makes the communication very cheap. For details please visit www.zong.com.pk or contact one of the Zong’s franchises.

Regardless, what the package is, the Zong has broken another barrier in the telecom sector which according to me is the important in terms of overall growth. It is the first installment based package in Pakistan from any cellular company and it will pave way for more. Another GSM player is expected to come up with more lucrative package and of course the monthly package will be much easier. We have already experienced the war between Zong and Ufone on cheap handset based package deals.
Not only it will be a ray of hope for RIM based BlackBerry but for other mobile phone manufacturers in Pakistan as well who are currently facing too much resistance from cheap and illegal Chinese handsets, illegal in a terms that they do not have the IMEI number on them. Branded phones manufacturers will be able to make new deals with the cellular operators and this way industry can move towards the genuine sales contrary to fake SIM sales in the past. Perhaps this first step could turn out to be a trend maker for upcoming MVNOs for which PTA has already announced the policy frame work and so far there is no one to come forward for the license.

Zong you think the people are fool or Duffers . If we will buy a used handset it will be costing us 20-25 k for Bold and 8900 and if we will take blackberry services it will be costing us 1000 only. Why the hell we will give you 120000 and 96000 for Bold ,8900 . Its just a stupid and a shame offer.
    Thanks Any ways.

This was not expected from zong way to expensive.

  11. Qudsia Jamaal on December 15, 2009 at 5:20 pm

    Rs. 1,000 + tax (monthly fee)* 24 = 24,000

    Bold 9000: Rs. 4,000 * 24 = 96,000

    96,000 + 24,000 = 120,000 per year approx.

    Curve 8900: Rs. 3,000 * 24 = 72,000

    72,000 + 24,000 = 96,000 per year approx.

    Market Price is :

    Blackberry Bold 9000: Rs. 45,000

    Blackberry Curve 8900: Rs. 40,000

Both the sets are almost twice expensive as available in the market, only the good point in this offer is that user who don’t pay one time can avail this but its too expensive.

    Zong is looting the customers.

  12. Ralf on December 15, 2009 at 1:30 am

    looting the public

  13. Shahid Ali on December 14, 2009 at 8:26 pm

Its better to buy 2-BB sets and pay monthly rental for 2-years.

    Really disappointed –

Zong is earning profit on top of bank financing amount after banks own profit.

  14. Jamil Arif on December 14, 2009 at 4:18 pm

i think the 4000 monthly include all the tariff plus monthly mobile installment. If this only monthly installment then it is very expensive.
