Nine students of third year from Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department, UET Lahore called “Team Synergy” have designed a prototype of environment friendly and fuel efficient car “Enfrnd-2” that can cover 250 Kilometer in just one liter of petrol and can attain a maximum speed of 50 Km/hr.

This lightweight car weighs only 55 Kg as compared to the car that was designed by the students of UET last year which weighed some 95 Kg.

The outer body is made up of Carbon Fiber which is extremely light. Being a prototype, the car can only accommodate one person (driver) and specifically created for the track of Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where Shell Eco Marathon Asia 2011 is going to take place from 6th to 9th of July.

UET-Fuel-Efficient-Car-EnfrShell Eco Marathon event is held every year across the world in Europe, Asia and America, it is basically an educational project which aims to design, build and drive a car which travels the farthest distance using the least amount of fuel and produces the fewest emissions. The most energy efficient vehicle in turn covers the maximum distance and is crowned as the winner. In search of that glory, our team named as, Team Synergy is participating in this prestigious competition to exhibit the talent of our country.

“This is our second consecutive year in this event. Last year 20 teams from all over the country had participated and only two teams cleared the safety tests, our team (Team Synergy) was one of them. The team has set the target of achieving 250 Km in one liter and Inshallah we are going to achieve it”, said one of the team member Afraz Ahmad.

“Enfrnd-2 is the name of our car and it is based on the fact that it is “environment friendly”. We have spent 8 months on this project to make sure it nullifies the effect of harmful gases that come out of the engine” Afraz added.
After having been checked comprehensively by qualified Shell team, the car has been sent to Malaysia where it will take part in the event.

A total of 121 teams, including 20 from all over Pakistan, have confirmed their participation in the Kuala Lumpur eco-marathon where young engineers from various Asian countries are meeting.

UET-Fuel-Efficient-Car6In 2010, France broke the Eco-Marathon world record by driving the equivalent of 4000 Kilometers in one liter of fuel.
Mobility across the world is increasing with each passing day. People are using vehicles of various kinds to access their jobs, schools, markets etc. According to estimates, by the middle of this century, world population will grow to approximately 9 billion, demanding more mobility and hence tremendous pressure on roads. More than one fifth of world’s energy is consumed by our transportation system today. As population grows with exorbitant rate, it is not hard to calculate how costly it would become to manage our transportation in terms of fuel and environment.

Designing of such cars in Pakistan shows that how talented our youth is. If right steps are taken by government along with the help of private sector in terms of support to our educational institutions, young Pakistanis can really turn around the ailing situation of Pakistan.

Team Synergy UET Lahore
UET-Fuel-Efficient-Car-2Our team comprises of people of integrity, dedication and steadfastness. Equipped with all the paraphernalia to compete in any national and international event. Every teammate has his salient features and has the capability to perform aptly on his respective capacity. Student of different disciplines of UET are collaborating to make this project a complete success. Our generous sponsors have not only supported us financially but have also provided us with the expertise of their technical staff.

We have learnt a lot about the current financial scenario of the companies in Pakistan regarding sponsorships, their coordination with the students and interest in the innovative projects.

For the first time we have employed various weight reduction techniques i.e. using honey comb structure for the chassis of our car, moreover we are using carbon fiber for the body fabrication of our car. We have used the best quality equipment from the companies that meet the world standards in quality for their products, for instance Honda car’s paint and carbon fiber that it used for the light weight aeronautical essentials around the world. UET administration has been cooperative enough to provide us with all the amenities for instance the state of the art labs and an automotive research centre has been allocated to Team Synergy to carry out the fabrication of our prototype car “Enfrnd-2”. We intend to give our 100% in this project and hope for the best.
